Gas prices have climbed from an average of $3.29 in Des Moines to $3.39 in time for the holiday weekend.
Thei increase follows a jump in the price of crude oil, which climbed from around $90 per barrel a week ago to $95 at the end of last week.
Gas prices rose from $2.99 to almost $4 per gallon beginning Jan. 1 through Memorial Day, but then fell back as tensions eased in the Middle East and OPEC gave assurances of more supply.
The national average gas price as the weekend began was $3.57 per gallon. A year ago, Iowa’s average price stood at about $2.67 and the national average was $2.77.
