Apple’s first augmented reality headset

Apple’s first augmented reality headset

10 most exciting new technologies coming in 2018

Apple is all in with augmented reality. Leaks all agree that the company is actively working on an augmented reality headset, a technology different from the existing virtual reality wearables because it does not require full immersion into a virtual world.

It is not yet clear whether Apple will even launch this new headset, but we expect more information to surface about this project throughout the year. The company is allegedly aiming at a 2019 launch for the AR headset and it could come as its next big category that could one day succeed the iPhone.

So far, we know that Apple has hired a big team of top industry experts exploring AR. People from the film industry, programmers and other specialists are figuring out the uses of the augmented reality headset and recently, we've heard reports that Apple has already placed orders for displays for the glasses at a Chinese manufacturer.

Gears of War 3 headset rivals Modern Warfare 3: It's war!

Within a day of spotting Turtle Beach’s Call of Duty branded headset, Mad Catz has released its own Gears of War 3 headset, with the two products fighting it out before the games are even released. While the Call of Duty MW3 headset is relatively restrained, however, the Mad Catz surround-sound headset is an explosion of blood red and skulls.

With the vast majority of gadgets finished in either black or white – games consoles and peripherals included – it’s nice to see a bit of colour occasionally. You’ll certainly be able to do just that with Mat Catz’s latest creation, which features bright red and black Gears of War 3 branding on the headset – along with the usual skull – and the Gears of War 3 logo on the receiver.

There are a couple of different headphones in the range – in keeping with Turtle Beach’s efforts – with prices starting at $30. The range-topping headset features 7.1 surround sound – again aping the Call of Duty offering – and is available for $180.

No word yet on UK pricing or availability, but with the specs so closely matched, which headset would you rather have? Gears of War 3, or Call of Duty, MW3? Leave a comment and let us know.
