Microsoft tweaking Xbox search function, no new music service!

Earlier this morning, we saw lots of reports of an upcoming music service for Microsoft’s Xbox. Initial articles pointed at the service having over 11 million songs, and being launched this autumn, but it looks like there’s been a bit of confusion. To find out what’s actually happening with music on the Xbox, join us after the break.

It seems like music streaming services have been the new black of late, with huge companies like Google looking to get in on the act. As such, reports of a music service for Microsoft’s Xbox came as no surprise, but it seems like some publications were a bit quick to react.

The revelations came off the back of an announcement from Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer at the Microsoft Partner Conference.

However, on the idea of a new music service, a Microsoft spokesperson stated: “Reports that Microsoft is launching a new music service on Xbox this fall are inaccurate.”

Rather than providing a new music service for the Xbox this autumn, Microsoft is actually looking at delivering new features, including voice search functionality using Bing. You’ll be able to search for content already stored on your Xbox – and this includes Zune music.

Oh well, we didn’t really want another music streaming service anyway. And at least it’ll be easy to search through existing collections
