Simple Audio player takes on Sonos, streams music around your home

When it comes to streaming music around the house to different rooms, Sonos has the market all tied up. Not for much longer, if Simple Audio has anything to do with it, with the company offering a multi-room system for £650. Read on to find out more.
Where lots of other multi-room audio setups use Wi-Fi to stream music, the Simple Audio player uses a PowerLine AV connection, taking advantage of your home’s mains wiring to deliver music to different rooms.

This doesn’t make a big difference when it comes to cables criss crossing your home – even with a Wi-Fi setup you’d still have to have a receiver plugged in to draw power, the only difference with the Simple Audio player is that it also picks up music via the mains as well. There’s an amp built into each player, so all you have to do is plug it in, and hook up a set of speakers in each room.
There’s one big advantage to this, and that’s the fact it’s a lot more stable, with less chance of losing a signal than a Wi-Fi player. The Simple Audio player can also manage 24-bit audio files, and it can handle music from iTunes, internet radio or services like Spotify, and it can even distribute music from your iPhone around the house.

As with the Sonos and other music streaming devices there’s a full touchscreen controller, letting you keep on top of playlists and control your music .

Available later this year, the Simple Audio player will cost around £650.
