Nintendo 3DS to get 3D movie app this month

Out of all the 3D gadgets we’ve seen in the past year, the Nintendo 3DS has impressed us more than most. It manages without 3D glasses, displaying a 3D image that brings games to life, and it’s now set to play back 3D movies as well.

The screen on the Nintendo 3DS is the portable console’s party piece, with the ability to control the depth of images, and to bring content to life. It’s the perfect display for playing back movies, and it looks like you won’t have much longer to wait if you do want to watch the latest blockbusters on your 3DS.

According to a press release from Nintendo, the 3DS will be able to handle 3D videos later this month, with the ability to download a movie app from the 13th July
.
3D movies will be available from Nintendo’s new eShop – at least in Europe – with a US launch expected later in the year. Although we don’t expect the Nintendo 3DS to replace our tablet or laptop, it would still be nice to be able to play the odd movie, helping to keep us entertained on flights or the daily commute.
