Apple this week unveiled a couple of new MacBook Pro laptops fitted with its own Retina Display technology for higher resolution images with even more detail. An improved display isn’t the only reason to fall in love with the new MacBook Pro. Here are five reasons to get excited about Apple’s latest laptop.

From the new Retina Display to its more powerful Ivy Bridge processors, the new Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display is definitely one of the most advanced laptops around. Here’s a handful of reasons why it’s worth saving up for one.

That Retina Display

Of course we couldn’t ignore that display. The 5.1 million pixel screen spread over 15.4-inches takes the detail on Apple MacBook Pro’s to new heights. A 2880×1800 resolution delivers more detail, while maintaining excellent picture quality and a better viewing angle to cope with bright conditions. One gaze at it is enough to have any gadget fan sprung.

It’s thinner

Apple has somehow managed to cram in all of its latest laptop tech into a device that is actually thinner, and lighter than even the 13-inch model. So while the new Apple MacBook Pro is pretty big in terms of display size, it’s even less likely to give you shoulder ache than the original 13-inch models.

All-flash storage

The new Retina Display MacBook boasts 768GB all-flash storage for better performance. Startup is quicker, and apps launch faster. You’ll notice the difference when using more power intensive apps such as Final Cut Pro. And because there are no moving parts the new MacBook Pro is more durable from knocks.

Retina Display-ready software

With the Retina Display comes Retina Display-compatible apps, each tweaked to look their best on the MacBook Pro’s Retina Display. Whatever you’re using it for, you’re sure to notice the difference from not having a Retina Display.

Apple 2012: MacBook Pro with Retina Display, MacBook Air, iOS 6 and OS X Mountain Lion

 

Apple last night unveiled a bunch of exciting new products and services for Apple fans to get excited about. Among them: a new 15-inch MacBook Pro fitted with Apple’s Retina Display, a handful of new MacBook Air laptops, and the announcement of iOS 6 for Apple smartphones and tablets, including maps. Read on for all the must-know Apple details. 



Beginning with the new MacBook Pro. Retina Display MacBooks had been rumoured for a while. Now they’ve finally arrived. There are two 15-inch Retina Display models that are now 0.71-inch deep – thinner than existing models.

Each pack a 2880×1800 resolution Retina Display with a 220 pixels-per-inch density. That means more detail, clearer, more vibrant images, and better viewing angles.

The new MacBook Pro will be powered by your choice of a quad-core 2.3GHz Intel Core i5 or 2.6GHz Core i7 processor, and up to 768GB flash storage, 8GB RAM and 768 Solid State Drive (SSD). The ports have also been tinkered with. You now get a HDMI-out and two USB 3.0 ports, thunderbolt ports, and an SD card slot. The Retina Display models start from £1,799.

New MacBook Air models were also on the menu. There were a couple of 11.6-inch models, and 13.3-inch models with upgraded internals. You get two USB ports on each, and a webcam that supports 720p HD FaceTime chats.

The more basic models sport a 1.8GHz processor, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD, or you can opt for a 2.0GHz processor and 512GB of storage. The new MacBook Airs are shipping today, with the 11-inch models starting from £849, and £999 for the 13-inch model.

 

Also on the bill was iOS 6, out this Autumn. The latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system now brings new mapping skills developed in-house by Apple, and turn-by-turn navigation with Apple’s Siri built-in. Siri will also be able to launch apps using your voice, and also come to third generation iPads. Apple fans can also look forward to more Facebook integration cross areas such as contacts and location sharing. There will also be support for FaceTime over 3G.

And then there’s the new OS X Mountain Lion, out July for Mac. A lot of the focus will be on how it uses iCloud. iCloud now integrates with reminders, notes, documents, and messages from mobile devices. Apple’s Safari internet browser will also get a performance boost, with a unified search box, and iCloud tab syncing to open pages that you had previously looked at on another device. There will also be Apple’s Game Center, and the ability to update in sleep mode. Mountain Lion will be out in July.

Apple has unveiled the next generation of iPad. It’s more powerful, has a better screen and an improved camera. But is it the upgrade Apple fans were dreaming of? Read on and we’ll tell you everything you need to know about the new iPad.

It really is called the new iPad

During Apple’s presentation we were waiting on tenterhooks to hear the name of the new iPad. As it turns out that is exactly what it’s called. Not the iPad HD, or iPad 3. Say hello to the new iPad.

High resolution Retina Display

The new iPad boasts a 9.7-inch 2048×1536 pixel Retina Display that Apple claims makes text look sharper than it does on a newspaper. Gaming should look a treat on it.

A powerful new chip and processor

To cope with the demands you’re going to push on your new iPad, Apple has developed a new AX5 dual-core CPU. With the Retina Display graphics power is key and to keep things nice and smooth an on-board quad-core GPU has been fitted. Overall, you’ll find a 4x speed boost over that of the iPad 2.

A better camera

The new iPad has a 5-megapixel camera featuring auto exposure, auto-focus and auto-face detection. The new iPad now also records video in full HD (1080p), and uses video stabilisation and noise reduction tech to deliver top-notch high quality video.

Battery life

Battery life will remain as impressive as ever. Apple promises a 10-hour battery life and nine hours while powering away over 3G.

4G LTE

The new iPad will be 4G LTE compatible in the US, and 3G ready world-wide. We don’t have 4G in the UK just yet, but trials are already taking place that could see 4G connectivity trickle throughout the UK later this year.

It will go on sale in the UK from 16 March 2012, so there’s not long to wait. Those wanting a piece of the action can pre-order one from the Apple Store website right now. Prices start from £399.
