Grand Theft Auto 5: Three new characters and more revealed!

Grand Theft Auto 5: Three new characters and more revealed!

Rockstar Games revealed last week that Grand Theft Auto 5 is due for release next Spring, and even put it up for pre-order for eager games. But a new report has spilled the beans on much more about the latest instalment in the blockbuster shoot-drive-open world game series. Want all the juicy gossip? We’ve got it right here.

The latest issue of Game Informer magazine has a huge feature on Grand Theft Auto 5 and what to expect. The big change this time round is with the ability to play as three different characters: Michael, a former bank robber who knows how to pull off a heist, Trevor, a gangster, and Franklin, the young employee of a crooked second-hand car dealership.

You’ll be able to switch between the three characters at will, and the map zooms out and in to reveal where they are in the city. They go about their daily lives when you’re not playing as them, so you could be surprised by where they end up, according to the mag.

The Grand Theft Auto 5 game world is also said to be absolutely vast. Though it’s set only in the city of Los Santos, rather than the whole wider fictional state of San Andreas as Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was, Rockstar says it’s the biggest open world game they’ve ever made, and even bigger than the maps of Red Dead Redemption, GTA 4 and San Andreas combined.”

It certainly sounds epic. We’re still yet to hear any details about the multiplayer options in Grand Theft Auto 5 though, which could make it even more exciting. We’ll have those for you as soon as we can, but in the meantime, get stuck in in the comments below. Are you going to be playing Grand Theft Auto 5?

Grand Theft Auto V reveal today: Five things we want to see by

Grand Theft Auto V reveal today: Five things we want to see

Grand Theft Auto V reveal today: Five things we want to see

Grand Theft Auto V is coming. That’s right – a fifth Grand Theft Auto game. Later today, at 4pm GMT, Rockstar Games will give the world its very first glimpse of its next car-thefting themed open-world romper. At this moment in time nothing is known about the game, and rumours have been flying as to where it will be set. Perhaps getting ahead of ourselves, here are five things we’d love to see in Grand Theft Auto V.

An unexpected location
A new location may sound like a given, but word on the street is that Rockstar just might be thinking about a return to San Andreas. After all, Grand Theft Auto: San Andrea remains one of the most popular Grand Theft Auto (GTA) games of all time. As much as we love the vast sprawls of San Andreas, there’s always something fresh about exploring somewhere for the first time. London currently tops our wish-list, but after Rockstar revealed the game’s logo, featuring what looks like the font of a dollar bill, it looks like Grand Theft Auto is remaining stateside for now.

An evolving gameplay experience

The ability to level up and earn XP to improve your character has been creeping into games for some time now. And it’s something we’re hoping to see more of in a big way come the arrival of Grand Theft Auto V. In the GTA games players have been used to earning cash for completing objectives. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas allowed you to enter gyms and buff up, but it would be great to earn experience points to earn the ability to learn new moves. Perhaps the new protagonist can gradually learn kung-fu.

Scenery destruction
Mangling motors has always been a big part of the GTA series. It would be great to see some of that destruction carry over into the rest of the environment. Imagine hiding behind a wall, only to see it eroded away by gunfire, or nearby buildings getting torn apart in explosive crossfire.

More reasons to carry on exploring the city
Up to now GTA games have done a good job of encouraging players to play on after clearing the campaign, thanks to the chance to collect hidden packages and finish any remaining sidequests. But what about after that? Rockstar has been keen to add separate downloadable content (DLC) quests, and we’d love to see that trend continue. At reasonable prices, of course. And how about some free DLC for those that put the effort in. Rockstar’s own Red Dead Redemption has gradually seen free DLC creep in so there’s plenty of hope.

Co-operative mode
Co-op mode, anyone? The Gears of War series has already shown that, done well, an excellent co-op mode can do wonders for a game’s single player campaign. And you can bet your life that Rockstar will do something not yet seen in a Grand Theft Auto game. A co-op mode would see two players simultaneously wreaking all sorts of havoc across the city. The team-working possibilities are endless. But would it work?

Battlefield 3 fastest selling FPS of all time?

Battlefield 3 fastest selling FPS of all time?

Battlefield 3 fastest selling FPS of all time?

Battlefield 3 is winning hearts and minds at a staggering rate. Not only has the FPS hit the top spot in it’s first week of release, EA is also estimating that it will hit five million copies sold within his first week on sale. So, could this be the fastest selling FPS game of all time? It’s early days yet but EA is certainly happy with the results.

There seems to be no bigger market right now than the scorched earth of the FPS with both Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 fighting it out for your loyalty and you wallet this Christmas. Electronic Arts, the company being Battlefield 3, has certainly got its spin-doctors in place as the company has announced that it is the fastest selling game in the history of EA games.

EA went on to say that ‘Battlefield 3 has sold through five million units in the first week globally, making it the fastest-selling game in EA’s history’, which is 50 per cent of its initial retail shipments , which is pretty impressive.

It’s not just the single-player game that has proven a success as it seems gamers are logging on online in unprecedented numbers and while servers were put to the test, EA is quoting that servers and service uptime stabilised to roughly 98.9 per cent throughout the weekend.

It comes as no surprise that Battlefield 3 has already kicked, scratched and shot its way to the No.1 position in the UK All Formats Chart, pushing last weeks big seller, Batman: Arkham City, down into second place, and dropping the footballing titles FIFA 12 and Football Manager 2012 down to a more mid-table level. Just Dance 3 rounds out the top five chart for this week.

So, are you already playing Battlefield 3? Does it have the chops to beat Modern Warfare 3? Let us know what you think in the Comments below.

Americans spent over $15 billion on video games in 2010

Americans spent over $15 billion on video games in 2010 According to a preliminary estimate released by NPD, total consumer spending on all video game content in the US was between $15.4 and $15.6 billion during 2010. That figure includes physical console and PC games, digital downloads, used games, rentals, subscriptions, social network games, DLC, and mobile game apps. Assuming the initial data is correct, the research firm believes overall sales have fallen by about 1% from 2009. Although retail games accounted for the majority of spending with $10.1 billion in revenue, sales dropped 5% from $10.6 billion in 2009.

PC game sales increased by 3%, and that's no surprise with blockbusters like StarCraft II and WoW: Cataclysm breaking records last year. That, combined with increased spending on downloads, mobile games and other segments offset the declines in physical sales, rentals and subscriptions. "The increasing number of ways to acquire the content has allowed the industry to maintain total consumer spend on content as compared to 2009, and we should expect 2011 to be a growth year in the games industry as the consumer demand for gaming continues to evolve," NPD said. The outfit expects to release a final estimate of consumer spending in March's "Games Industry: Total Consumer Spend (2010)" report.  http://www.d-skin.com/
