iPhone and Android to get Pokemon, Nintendo interested in mobile phone games?

Gadgets like the Sony PSP and Nintendo DS used to rule the mobile gaming market, but the explosion of completely addictive titles for mobile phones has shaken things up dramatically. With the launch of Pokemon – which Nintendo owns a part of – on iPhone and Android devices, it looks like Nintendo could be trying to get in on the mobile phone action.

The latest range of games on the iPhone and Android smartphones offer amazing graphics, capable of matching titles that we’ve seen on dedicated gaming handhelds. With addictive gameplay to match, and the convenience of being able to play wherever you go, it’s no surprise that more and more of us are turning to gaming on our mobile phones.

Despite that, Nintendo has taken a hard line against mobile phone games in the past, refusing to get drawn in. It’s understandable – as iPhone and Android games are obviously competing directly against the likes of the 3DS, but it definitely looks like the future of portable gaming.

As such, the launch of Pokemon for Android and iOS devices later this year shouldn’t be such a big surprise. Sure, Nintendo owns a part of the Pokemon franchise, but it’s bound to be incredibly popular. Perhaps Nintendo are even coming round to the idea of gaming on mobile phones?

What Nintendo games would you like to see on your iPhone or Galaxy S II? Leave a comment and let us know.
