64% of smartphone shoppers will buy more from their mobiles this Christmas, predicts IMRG

Summer must be over: the predictions about ‘A Mobile Christmas’ are starting to arrive. First out of the paddock is IMRG-eDigitalResearch, suggesting that more than half (64%) of smartphone shoppers who are planning to shop from their devices this Christmas are claiming that they will make more mobile purchases this year compared to 2012.

eDigitalResearch and IMRG found that 44% of smartphone owners have said that they will consider doing some of their Christmas shopping online, with over half of these (64%) planning to purchase more gifts and Christmas items from their device than they did during the festive period in 2012. The survey of 2,000 online consumers also found that almost all respondents (96%) will shop online this Christmas, with 48% purchasing at least half of their Christmas shopping on the internet.

The results highlight the need for retailers to ensure that all their touch points – no matter how many they operate – are accessible to everyone in order to maximise Christmas sales.

The survey also found that a quarter (25%) of consumers feel that their online shopping experience is ‘significantly better’ or ‘slightly better’ at Christmas time thanks to special deals and a bigger range of products on offer. Just 7% feel that it gets worse.

In comparison, almost half (42%) feel that their in-store experience deteriorates during the festive period with busy stores, queues and a limited number of staff to deal with requests some of the main reasons that people feel high street shopping at Christmas is worse than any other time of the year.

The quarterly eCSI study has been tracking people’s Christmas shopping habits since 2008 and has found that consumers are increasingly turning to the internet and their online devices for better deals and more choice as household budgets continue to be squeezed.

Derek Eccleston, Commercial Director at eDigitalResearch, says: “Back in 2010 just 35% of smartphone owners said that they would even consider doing Christmas shopping from their devices. This Christmas, retailers are likely to see more festive purchases through mobile sites and apps than ever before. As a result, retailers and brands need to ensure that they are ready for the usual Christmas shopping spree and provide a seamless shopping experience no matter what channel a consumer uses. The customer experience has to be right from the offset – from a simple, yet inviting homepage right through to fulfilling orders on time as promised and ensuring that gifts arrive in time for the big day”.

Andy Mulcahy, Editor at IMRG, adds: “It is little wonder that such a high percentage of people (64%) say they are planning to do more shopping through their phones this Christmas; we’ve seen sales through mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) grow rapidly over the past few years, accounting for 23% of online sales in Q2 of 2013 with site visits at 34%. To put in perspective the rate at which confidence in the channel has grown, three years ago at the start of 2010, sales through mobile devices stood at just 0.4% of online sales.”

Valencia: A Spanish city without medicine

Why is Spain Broke, lets look at Valencia and see..

"The Route of Waste, projects Valencia built in the good times”

  1. There is the Formula One racetrack, which runs right through the city so the roads had to be redesigned. But the city has lost its Formula One race.
  2. There is the America's Cup dock, with huge sheds for ocean-going yachts and a massive white control tower. But there is no more America's Cup racing in Valencia.
  3. There is the Opera House, a cross between the one in Sydney and something you would imagine only in your more disturbed dreams - 400 million euros to build, 40 million a year to run - 15 performances a year.
  4. The airport that has never seen a single plane land.
  5. The theme park built in a place where the summer heat rises above 40C (104F).
  6. The land bought at premium prices that is now worthless.

have you got stories of waste of money on a national scale e-mail us.

Apple's Ridiculous Patent

Apple's Ridiculous Patent

As if you needed more evidence that the US patent system is broken Apple has just been awarded one of the most ridiculous patents ever. The title? “Method for providing human input to a computer”

Here’s the Abstract from the filing:

The invention provides a method for providing human input to a computer which allows a user to interact with a display connected to the computer. The method includes the steps of placing a first target on a first portion of the user’s body, using an electro-optical sensing means, sensing data related to the location of the first target and data related to the location of a second portion of the user’s body, the first and second portions of the user’s body being movable relative to each other, providing an output of the electro-optical sensing means to the input of the computer, determining the location of the first target and the location of the second portion of the user’s body, and varying the output of the computer to the display based upon the determined locations for contemporaneous viewing by the user.

It gets better; the patent claims …

1. The invention can provide a 3, 4, and 5 dimensional touch screen or graphics tablet. In other words, the x,y location of the touch, the force or depth of the touch, and the vector direction of the touch (2 angles).

Of course, there’s no actual demonstration of this “5D” system and like so many modern patents this one amounts to a hand-waving (literally) exercise more along the lines of “what if” than anything concrete. Those issues aside, where’s the novelty?

I wonder how this patent will stand up to challenges and, should Apple try to exert what has become its intellectual property, how well might they fare in court?

it’s a mad mad mad mad world and getting madder

Today I receive an e-mail from pay pal it said.

“We're writing to let you know about a change to your PayPal account.

Starting 01/07/2012, money from payments you receive will be placed in a pending balance for up to 21days. By doing this, we're making sure that there's enough money in your account to cover potential refunds or claims.”

I have used paypal for years and where the occasion I need to pay back a client the payment was taken from my account with no problem. This year I have had no pay backs so this e-mail came as a great surprise.

As far as I can see this is another FAT CAT COMPANY ripping of  little people and small business. Imagine how much paypal hold of other people’s money on a daily basis, now multiply that by 21 days interest and you come to a very tidy sum.

As far as I am concerned I am now looking at a more professional shopping cart system and will be leaving paypal ASAP.

After speaking to paypal this seems to be a rolling progress and the only logic is making money not customer care.  The young lady from paypal customer support said this had also happened on her account as well.

Do you use paypal. This might happen to you soon, has this already happened to you. Please tell us your experiences with paypal and if you use another companies shopping cart let us know what you think.

Facebook shares drop below flotation price (shock horror)

Shares in Facebook have fallen in early trading on Wall Street to below the price at which they were floated.

Now I am not a stock market expert but I am good at maths.

So let’s look at the numbers.

  1. Facebook has never made a profit.

End of calculation 0 profit = 0 worth.

Even if they made 1 billion dollar this year it would take 100 years to break even and at those odds anybody who brought shares will be dead and their children and even grand children.

Or a more amazing is that Greece will be making money before Facebook so I am going to start buying share in Greece, sorry getting caught up in my own hype.

If you brought share please look at what you did and think very carefully so far you have lost 12% it time to sell and break loose before it goes down further.

Now, on Friday, Facebook debuted on the Nasdaq stock exchange at $38 a share.

Today, despite the wider market being in a buoyant mood, Facebook slid 12% immediately at the opening bell. They are currently around the $33-34 range.

Analysts suggested the shares would have fallen on Friday, had it not been for underwriters stepping in to buy up stock.

The offer price valued the site at $104bn (£66bn).

"It's early days yet but it doesn't look good," said BBC business correspondent Mark Gregory in New York.

"There's talk that Facebook's advisers set the price too high. And there are doubts about whether the firm can produce the revenues and profits required to justify its enormous valuation," he said.

“Start Quote

For other technology firms hoping to follow Facebook on the road to IPO riches, any sign that the bubble may burst is deeply worrying”

End Quote

One US-based analyst told the BBC that Facebook's flotation price had been too high.

"The market is just not valuing what Facebook has to bring to the table," said Patrick Moorhead, analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy.

Wind farm subsidy cut urged by MPs

More than 100 Conservative MPs have written to the prime minister urging him to cut subsidies for wind turbines. They also want planning rules changed to make it easier for local people to object to their construction.

The Tory MPs - joined by some backbenchers from other parties - questioned the amount of money going to the sector during "straitened times".

But the government said wind farms were a "cost-effective and valuable part of the UK's diverse energy mix".

The challenge to the coalition's policy presents an immediate problem for the new Energy and Climate Change Secretary, Ed Davey. He was promoted to the job following the resignation of fellow Liberal Democrat Chris Huhne last Friday.

Lib Dem president Tim Farron told BBC's Andrew Marr Show that Mr Davey was a "very, very capable man" and an "outstanding environmentalist" who would take projects forward.

What is your view, is the goverment loosing the plot or do you agree with their view.

How much money do you owe the bank

The US runs a budget deficit that topped $1.5tn (£920bn) this year, and has amassed a national debt of $14.3tn,  HOW MUCH.

When I was a child we had a word for a large sum of money  Gazilions, now the US goverment owes gazilions and they should be pround of this.

If there were a business or a family running they would be homeless and living in the gutter, but that is not the case.

They dine on Champagne and caviar as honest working people loose their jobs, is their no justice in the world

EuroMillions: £154 million, how to spend it all in one week

With a record £154m up for grabs, people across the country are rushing out to buy lottery tickets this weekend, in the hope of hitting the EuroMillions jackpot on Tuesday. The massive cash-pot up is up for grabs after a rollover on Friday, when no one won the £141m draw.
An anonymous winner, who scooped a EuroMillions jackpot of £113m last October, currently tops the National Lottery rich list in the UK.

A spokeswoman for the National Lottery said there was always "a bit of a sales frenzy" when there was a massive jackpot, and urged punters to buy their tickets in good time. If nobody wins Tuesday's jackpot, it will roll over again to Friday's draw. The jackpot can go to a maximum of ¤185m – about £167m.

Protecting the environment by protecting your CDs

Eliminate scratched video game & DVD disks for ever

It isn’t perhaps the most groundbreaking news story that reveals persistently replacing ruined CDs can be painfully damaging to one’s bank balance. However, less obvious is the damaging impact that a single chip or small scratch to the shiny side of a disc has on the environment.

CDs and DVDs are made from materials including polycarbonate plastic, petroleum-based lacquer and paints, aluminum and other metals. These materials release chemicals that contribute to environmental and health problems as well as global warming, both when they are produced and when they are destroyed.

The chemical used in CD cases, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), is especially damaging to the environment. It often contains a variety of additives, including lead, making it is the least recyclable, and least recycled, of the major plastics. The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that less than one percent of post-consumer PVC is recovered or reprocessed. That means the remaining 99% either ends up in landfills or is incinerated, a process that releases damaging dioxins into the air.

Attaching d-skin disc protectors to your CDs, DVDs, games and data immediately eliminates the wasteful and costly need to replace ruined discs. Additional damage is then cut further through the removal of having to back-up data onto blank discs. And if that wasn’t enough the skins themselves are packaged in recycled metal containers specifically designed to be used again as CD carriers. Thus negating the need for harmful post-consumer PVC cases.

There is an ever-increasing awareness by individuals and companies of the need to reduce polluting practices. Protecting your discs with d-skin should be seen as a very small but potentially significant step in the right direction.

Global Warming sorry climate change

Well here we go, the EU needs to give €6 billion (Euros) over 3 years to developing countries to aid global warming, but the argument is shall we give the money. Now let’s do the maths.

Royal Bank of Scotland was given 60 billion Euros by the UK Government to save a few fat cat’s fat ass from the fires of hell.

To help save the planet they need 1/10th the amount and they are arguing.

I must have lost the plot because the answer is very simply.....

As Sir Bob Geldof would have said:

“Give them the F***ing money”

Twitter sell out to Google

Yes, the true colours  of the Twitter directors is shown and they are GREEN $$$$$,

The directors of Twitter announce that Google is being given the twitter dada base.

What does this mean, Google will be able to follow you and track what you “tweet” about and then place adverts to suit your tweets.

Yes, imagine all your stuff out there for a huge multinational company to abuses your web browsing day with pointless advertising.

There was some exec from twitter talking rubbish like special gravy (his term for Google’s tech guys). What he actually meant was him and his fellow directors were now on the GRAVY TRAIN and the bucks will be rolling in faster than the speed of light. So selling all their clients details to the devil (please be aware that the new spelling of devil is GOOGLE) is a small price to pay for fast cars, jets and extremely big boats.

One day one of these execs is going to tell the truth and say “it was all about the money”

All I can say it I hope your train does not de-rail.

Dubai World Madness or Genius

Dubai World is the centrepiece of the Gulf state's economy

Madness or genius. As we all know there is a fine line between the two, but lets look at what they were thinking in Dubai.

The bankers who lent 80 billion dollars to build the tallest building in the middle of the desert, they were just barking mad.

The architects, engineer and builders who made the loads of money, pure genius.

Dubai world who lived the dream are now living the nightmare.

How much is enough

I was listening to a banker (i prefer the cockney version) who was justifying giving them selves a bonus. I have a degree in engineering and worked for one of the biggest companies in Europe, I worked on multi million pound projects.

The last bonus I got was a 15 pound marks and Spencers gift voucher. What did I do to deserve this, I spent the whole year working the weekends. My wife worked out that from the bonus I worked every Saturday and Sunday, neglected my family on the premise of making money. That means I got just under 2p an hours.

I would have got more working in the poorest country in the world.

Now if I was a banker (or merchant banker) I would have done the following.

1. Never worked a weekend
2. Got a basic wage that would fee a small African village
3. Bankrupt the planet

So I see on the news that because they made 1.5 billion dollars they would be getting massive bonuses.

Now last year they were on their knees begging for our money to help them out, now if you business failed would the Government help you, HELL NO.

And what are the governments doing, talking shit as per usual, at least the French government has some balls and is capping their bankers, now it is time for the rest to follow.
